SCSH 1201 - REFLECTIVE JOURNAL (1)
Assalamualaikum
and hi everyone! Welcome to my personal blogspot. Are you first time being
here? If yes, then I will introduce myself first. My name is Muhammad
Zulhamizan bin Zuljaini. I’m a student in International Islamic University
Malaysia (IIUM) Pagoh Campus and currently pursuing my bachelor’s degree in
Malay for International Communication. Today, I want to share my experience according
to my current courses that I take, which is SCSH 1201 Sustainable Development:
Issues, Principles and Practices, that is related with Sustainable Development
Goals (SDGs). I will pick SDG Number 2: Zero Hunger according with my story during
school time.
During
my childhood, my parents always concerned about our food intake routine and always
spectate what we consume daily. They never missed to give us food and other
necessities as it is important for our nutrition intake and growth. Also, what
I realised about them is they also give out food for others. As an example, my
mom, who is a teacher, always bring packet cookies or bread if she had class in
the morning. Her intention is not only for her to eat, but to give out the
bread or packet cookies to her students because she knows that many of her
students didn’t take their breakfast. So, by her initiatives, her students
didn’t have to starve and can focus on her teaching.
During
my high school period, my teacher always generous in giving out food to their
students. I remember that time when I entered the teacher’s room and my
teacher, Teacher Surieyaliza and Ustazah Wan Hakimah suddenly appeared in front
of me with their hand carrying a plate of fried rice and chicken. I only want
to meet other teacher, but they offered me the food to bring back to the
classroom. Suddenly, I felt guilty because that is not my rights as a student
to take teacher’s food. But Teacher Surieyaliza said that it is okay because
they didn’t want the students that came can’t have the food as same as them.
Also, they didn’t know if the students hungry or not although we are the
students at boarding school.
To
conclude my journal, I would like to emphasize on food intake in order to
sustain our mental and physical well-being. Being hungry and starve all day
because we have other things to afford is not good and we must help each other
to solve the hunger issue, not only in this university, but also in our
country.
